The Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF) committed in the children's plan to fund a national home safety equipment scheme (Safe at Home) to reduce accidental injuries and deaths among under fives. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents are hosting the scheme from Feb 2009 - March 2011. The Bradford District have been eligible to access 2800 sets of equipment per year (over the two year period).
Bradford Safeguarding Children Board are coordinating the scheme locally within the Bradford District through local children centre’s to families with a child or children under the age of five and in receipt of one of the following benefits:
The equipment is provided free of charge for eligible families and is professionally fitted in your home by a national company called Crestra.
Here Is The Equipment You Could Be Eligible For
Everyone with a BD postcode living in the Bradford District is eligible for this scheme if you have a child under five living with you and are in receipt of benefits.
Local children centre’s are delivering the scheme continually over the next year, if you would like a home visit please contact your local sure start children centre. However we are holding open days where parents/carers can drop in and sign up for the scheme on the following days:

Please come down to your local centre with your benefit entitlement forms on the date specified any time between the times given!!
You will need to bring your benefit entitlement form with you and a member of staff will explain the full scheme to you, you will be able to access information and advice about home safety and will be referred onto the fitters, who will come to your house at a later date (within 20 working days) to fit the equipment. It will take approximately half an hour to fill in the forms at the centre.
The equipment is officially on loan from RoSPA and although BSCB will not require the equipment to be returned to us RoSPA may do spot checks in the future to ensure the equipment has been used appropriately.
